Vick Story Continues

The details that got to me then and stay with me today involve the swimming pool that was used to kill some of the dogs. Jumper cables were clipped onto the ears of underperforming dogs, then, just like with a car, the cables were connected to the terminals of car batteries before lifting and tossing the shamed dogs into the water....."

"I can't shake my minds-eye image of a little black dog splashing frantically ... screaming in pain and terror ... brown eyes saucer wide and tiny black white-toed feet clawing at anything, desperate to get ahold. This death did not come quickly...."
Donna from BAD RAP

This week Vick was released from prison. I haven't blogged about it. Vick is working out a deal to be a spokesperson for HSU. Makes me ill. Of course, HSU wants me to get rid of my breakstick and my treadmill - signs of a dog fighter they say....That is a whole different topic

Someone asked BAD RAP's their thoughts on if Vick is sincerely remorseful.. After reading the response on their recent post, and feeling the tears streaming down my cheek, I had to share. There is too much emotion for me not too.

Here is the link to the blog post.

Again, RIP dogs...

Changes for Bust Dog Survivors

The HSUS and pro pit bull groups met in Vegas earlier this month to discuss Bust Dog Survivors. This was such a necessary Summit, especially after what happened to the Westside Kennel dogs.

To read about the outcome, please visit this post on the Bad Rap Blog.

It is good news!

Thanks to all the groups who went to bat for the dogs confiscated during fight bust raids.

Italy Lifting BSL

Italy joins Netherlands in lifting "Pit Bull" Blacklist

Dallas Pet Laws Examiner

March 17, 9:29 PM

Italy will join the Netherlands in lifting a nationwide breed-specific law.

Italian law currently defines 17 dog breeds as dangerous, which is down from 92 as recently as 2003.

The Health Undersecretary Francesca Martini is quoted as saying, "This is a historic day because we have established for the first time the responsibility of the owner or the person who is momentarily in charge of the animal." Martini is also quoted as saying, "The measures adopted in the previous laws had no scientific foundation. Dangerous breeds do not exist. With this law we have overcome the black list, which was just a fig leaf (over the larger problem), and we have increased the level of guarantees for citizens"

In June, 2008, the Dutch government announced that it would be lifting a 25 year-long ban on "pit bulls" because it did not lead to a decrease in bite incidents, and would instead focus on leash law and education programs.

I sure wish the cities in the USA would listen and see that BSL does not work.

HSUS agrees to summit on fight bust dogs.....

Bascially,

"The Humane Society of the United States on February 23 issued an interim policy recommending all dogs be evaluated as individuals, and is calling a meeting of leading animal welfare organizations concerning dogs victimized by dog fighting."“We expect government, corporations, and individuals to constantly re-evaluate how they deal with animal issues,” Pacelle said. “Likewise, we regularly review our own policies and procedures here at HSUS, and we think it is important to talk with professional colleagues in the movement to examine issues related to the disposition of fighting dogs."

Our friends from Bad Rap will also be attending the conference.

Hmmm are we on our way? Shall we even hope for change?????

At our household, paws and fingers will be crossed!

Don't blame us!

The author of B-More Bulldogs Blog sent an amazing letter the HSUS addressing concerns about the of euthanasia of over 100 APBT. You can read her letter here.

You can read John Goodwin and Nadya Vera response.

Judge for yourself. I have already made up my mind......

RIP Dogs

I won't write out a long story. 127 adult dogs and puppies were put to sleep yesterday.

You can read about it on BadRap's blog. Really, pull up any APBT forum and you can read about what happened to the dogs that were confiscated in the Wildside Kennel Bust. There are also some interesting posts on this blog or this blog.

At this point, the HSUS, " Representatives of the Humane Society told the judge that the dogs should be destroyed, because they had been bred for generations to be aggressive,"and Peta are on the same page in my black book.

Did we learn nothing from the Vick case; from the Vick dogs? Why not try and evaluate them first? Why label all as dangerous without an evaluation? Sure I know the questions running thru your minds. They are probably the same questions many had when Vick was busted. Where are we going to put 157 dogs? Why these dogs when millions are dying in shelters? Who is going to pay for all this during a recession? etc.

I just don't like the ongoing label being put onto the dogs, and the assumptions being made about them. Sure, this guy who owned the yard was guilty as sin. But did the dogs ask to be put into that yard? Just because a dog is "game" doesn't mean it is HA. Most game dogs do not have once ounce of HA. Do you - Wayne, John and fellow haters, know anything concerning the history of the breed??? Wait, you and Peta both wanted the Vick dogs euthanized too. Guess I should not assume you might have learned something about APBT from the Vicotry dogs. You probably did not pay attention since your group wasn't in the positive spotlight.

Ok..enough out of me.

On a positive note, congrats to Hector, a dog from the Vick yard, who officially became a therapy dog this week.
Stick that in your fedora and smoke it HSUS.

wait...didn't I say i wasn't writing a long post - LOL

one of the woman on PBF summed it up best...
"Needless to say, I'm furious about this--Faron's stupidity, the HSUS' blatant, arrogant hypocrisy, and above all else, the loss of those dogs. The deck was stacked against them from the outset, thanks to Goodwin's sensational, fear-mongering bluster."

favorite moment of the day

Do you have a favorite moment of the day - involving the dogs? One that reoccurs time after time? And don't say when they are asleep - LOL

I will tell you what mine is...It doesn't happen everyday - but when it does - ahhhhh - my heart fills with joy and a wide smile appears on my face. It's a small, minute or two, simple thing.

It happens when I am out (work, shopping, etc) and Billy is at home - meaning the dogs are roaming the house.

I drive down my street and pull up slow to my house. There in the window is usually Jake -he isn't a mama's boy at all - LOL. It's funny - he is like clock work waiting for me to come home. He rests his chin on the back of the couch (or windowsill when couch wasn't there) looking out the window. I stop in front of the house. Then i see three other heads pop into the window - one, two, three. I stay put and watch them for a moment - watch all four bodies wiggling to the right, to the left, to the right, etc. They stay in that position - all eyes fixed on the car- until I move the E into the driveway. I then watch them all leave the window - one, two, three, four. And Zoe begins to bark.

It really is cute and wish I could snap a photo of them.

It really is a special moment to me. yes, there are a lot of special moments with the dogs - but somehow - after a long tedious, stressful day at work - seeing them in the window calms me down and melts some of the stress away.

Love you pups!

WW - Speaks for itself

Source

Yes, the dogs would love a chance to play again too Mr Pr*ck.....

This WW post deserves some words associated with it. This cartoon was posted on PBF on a thread about Vick.

There are numerous ongoing debates and threads (locked and unlocked) on pit bull forums concerning Vick returning to the NFL. There are those that say he deserves the right to make a living in the NFL - as he has paid for his crimes and those who do not want to see him in the NFL (the majority of people feel the later - no return to NFL).

IMHO - he does have a right to a job - to make a living. But I believe that job should NOT be with the NFL in any capacity. Besides what he did with the dogs, the fighting and the executing (or should I say torturing the dogs), he also gambled - a big NO-NO in professional sports. And most children look up to sports figures as sort of role models and icons. A man like Vick blew his chance at that role - ....i don't want him to be a role model for any child......He blew his position to make millions.

Again, this is just IMHO. Do I believe people can change? absolutely..Do I believe he deserves a second chance - yes BUT... NOT in the NFL. Playing professional sports is a privilege and responsibility . I don't believe he has the right to that privilege. And I don't want to see him doing community service any where near dogs...Working at an animal shelter or with rescues - WTH? Some people suggested that - THUD THUD THUD (me banging my head against the desk). I don't want him near ANY ANIMALS!

Not once during any interview, any press conference (before or after pleading guilty) did he once apologize what he did to the dogs. It was all about apologizing to the NFL big wigs and his fans. I am sure he was "sorry" for losing those big money contracts and maybe his NFL career. And that says more to me about him and his so called "remorse"...

RIP dogs.
And to those vick dogs surviving - VICTORY TO YOU!

Sick Vick

Vick can burn in hell for all I care....

USDA Report Reveals Michael Vick Put 'Family Dogs' Into Pit Bull Rings

Posted Nov 21st 2008 9:40PM by Sportz Assassin (author feed)

With former Atlanta Falcon Michael Vick facing charges from Virginia over his dogfighting operation, more details are coming out about what went on at his home.

According to a report filed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Vick would put "family pet" dogs into fighting rings with pit bulls just to watch them get mauled, destroyed or killed.
The report, dated Aug. 28, 2008, says "Vick, (Purnell) Peace and (Quanis) Phillips thought it was funny to watch the pit bull dogs belonging to Bad Newz Kennels injure or kill the other dogs." The report has names and phrases redacted in order to protect the anonymity of certain individuals who cooperated with investigators.
The 17-page report also stated that Vick was directly involved in hanging and drowning dogs that they deemed not fight to fight. The report says that somebody was paid $100 to dig two graves for the dog carcasses and Vick, Peace and Phillips buried them.

Vick, who is serving 23 month sentence in a federal prison in Kansas, has already reached a plea deal with Virginia that will result in a three-year suspended prison sentence and a $2,500 fine.

As a dog lover, everything about this Vick thing has me disturbed. It disgusts me that anyone could do any of this to pit bulls, let alone normal family dogs. It physically makes me sick.

It also disgusts me that when Vick finally gets out and finishes off whatever suspension the NFL gives him, someone will give him a job as an NFL quarterback.

And what really gets my goat - " plea deal with Virginia - three year suspended prison sentence and $2500 fine" - WTH!

Thanks a lot Virginia........:(
